"Suzi Christie is the best PR professional I have worked with. She is a real team player, utterly reliable, thinks outside the box and oversees a comprehensive and effective PR strategy that took a first-time event in Brighton into national and international newspapers, onto TV and radio, and saved me spending loads of money on advertising. Starting Over Show - Sunday 15th March 2009

The challenge

The Starting Over Show (SOS) was the brainchild of single mother-of-three Suzy Miller. She used her personal experiences of divorce to create an event that would help the thousands of people who find themselves in a similar situation to 'start over'.

As this was the first event and advertising budgets were limited, the challenge was to create a high profile in the media. It was also important for the first show to receive positive coverage, as it would be a launch pad for future SOS shows.

What we did

We targeted correspondents who write about divorce, with the hook that the show was the first of its kind in the UK, as well as women's page editors.

To give SOS added interest, we worked with three non-denominational pastors from the Inter-Faith Church who staged a mock 'letting go' ceremony. This added colour to the story and resulted in the headline “With this ring I thee shed” in The Sun. The Sunday Express and Evening  Argus also featured the ceremony.

Other coverage, 83 pieces in total, included The Guardian, The Times, The Independent on Sunday,  The Sunday Express, The Telegraph, Daily Mail, LBC, BBC News 24, BBC On Line, Five Live and Radio 4's You and Yours, BBC Radio 2and Alan Titchmarsh's ITV show.  The Associated Press attended which resulted in coverage in the US, Taiwan, Russia and India.

The audience reach was more than 40 million and visitors to www.startingovershow.co.uk increased from 29,423 in January 2009 to 42,851 in March 2009. More than 1,600 people now follow Suzy on Twitter and she continues to be asked for comments on divorce.
