New record set at Sussex Christmas Tree Throwing Championships

29th November 2022

Athletes from across the region competed in the second annual Christmas tree throwing competition at Catsfield Christmas Tree Farm.

The event involved around 40 people each throwing three different six-foot firs as far as they could in the yard outside the Catsfield Christmas Tree Farm festive shop.

The men’s winner was Tadas Zakevicius from Seaford. He threw 9.06 metres – just beating last year’s record of 9 metres thrown by David Elias from St. Leonards. The world record is 12 metres.

The women’s winner was Vicky Reeves from Battle – she threw 6.50 metres.

The conditions were perfect for the competition with no wind or rain.

Clive Collins, Founder of Catsfield Christmas Tree Farm, said: “It was an excellent turn out this year with athletes coming from Kent and Sussex to take part.  The contest was quite tense, especially the women’s competition with only 30 centimetres between the first and second place. It was a lot of fun and a great way to start the festive season.”

Supposedly, the tradition of throwing trees hails from Sweden. However, they simply toss their tree out their apartment or living room windows. The Germans took this tradition one step further and turned it into a competition.

Catsfield Christmas Tree Farm has been operating in East Sussex for over 30 years and has one simple mission – to provide the best-quality trees in Sussex at the best possible prices. At the farm’s festive shop you can buy everything for on and around your festive tree. The team understands the importance of good customer service and delivering the complete Christmas experience to customers.

Catsfield Christmas Tree Farm opens on Friday 18th November and is open every day (8am on Saturday and Sunday and 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday). Clive Collins is an expert grower with over 30 years’ experience and offers a range of trees including Norway Spruce, Pine trees, Nordman, Balsam, Fraser and Concolour firs. The farm will donate 25p for every tree that’s sold to the local scouts who are in desperate need of funds.

Choose the freshest tree by coming to the farm early to reserve your tree in the plantation from November 18th to 27th.

Trees can be delivered to your door for just £13.50 to postcodes BN20-24, BN26-27, TN19, TN21, TN31-40. We trim the butt when we deliver your tree, so it lasts as long as possible.
